Design Process

This project followed a full user-centered design process, starting with research to uncover pain points and habits around product disposal. I then moved into problem definition, building personas and mapping out user journeys. In the ideation phase, I developed flows, wireframes, and content structures that reflected real user needs. Finally, I crafted a cohesive design system, designed high-fidelity screens, and brought the whole experience to life with a polished prototype and UI.

User Research: Understanding Mindsets Around Reuse

To design meaningful solutions, I conducted in-depth user research with participants from diverse backgrounds. Through interviews and surveys, I explored their motivations, challenges, and behaviors related to unused products. Key insights revealed a strong desire to save money, reduce waste, and connect with a like-minded community, all of which directly informed the core features of the app.

User Survey: Exploring Everyday Behaviors and Values

To support the qualitative insights from interviews, I conducted a user survey focused on shopping habits, repair behavior, and sustainability awareness. The goal was to better understand users’ mindsets and validate assumptions at scale. The findings helped shape key features of the app.

User Persona: Meet David, the Conscious Consumer

Based on insights from interviews and surveys, I created a persona to represent a key user group, individuals who are eager to make more sustainable choices but need guidance, motivation, and the right tools. David helped me keep the user’s goals, frustrations, and behaviors at the center of the design process, ensuring every decision was grounded in real needs.

Customer Journey Map: Mapping the Road to Repair

To empathize deeper with user pain points and motivations, I created a journey map that visualizes David’s experience from product neglect to successful repair. This helped me identify emotional highs and lows, as well as opportunities for intervention like when users feel stuck or unmotivated. It was a key tool in shaping a more supportive and empowering app experience.

Information Architecture: Building a Clear & Guided Flow

I structured the app’s information architecture to support intuitive navigation and reduce cognitive load. By organizing features into key categories like Repair, Repurpose, Community, and Profile, users can easily find what they need while discovering new possibilities along the way. This foundation ensured the entire experience felt smooth, logical, and purpose-driven from the first tap.

User Flow: Guiding the Journey with Purpose

I created detailed user flows to map out each step a user would take while interacting with the app from discovering a repair guide to sharing their repurposed creations. This helped me visualize the ideal paths, reduce friction points, and ensure that every interaction felt natural, goal-oriented, and empowering.

Moodboard:
Crafting a Cozy & Conscious Vibe

To shape the app’s visual identity, I curated a moodboard that blends warmth, sustainability, and DIY energy. Natural textures, earthy tones, and cozy home settings were chosen to reflect the hands-on, community-driven spirit of the app. The goal was to create a look and feel that’s both inviting and empowering a space where creativity and conscious living thrive.

Design System: Consistency with Character

I built a flexible design system to ensure visual harmony and usability across the app. It includes a cohesive set of components, from buttons and icons to color palettes and typography, all crafted with accessibility and sustainability in mind. This system made it easy to scale the design while keeping the experience intuitive, beautiful, and brand-aligned.

Design Solution: Pair-up

The final design brings together all research, strategy, and creativity into a seamless user experience. From the moment users open the app, they’re guided through a journey of discovery, repair, and community connection. Every screen is designed to be intuitive, empowering, and visually warm, encouraging people to take small sustainable actions that add up to meaningful change.
